Gujarat has confirmed 12 cases of Chandipura virus (CHPV) out of 63 suspected infections this year. The state government is increasing surveillance, treatment, and vector control efforts while awaiting test results for the remaining eight samples.
Health Minister Praful Pansheriya chaired a meeting to review the current situation and instructed officials to investigate the travel and case history of infected patients for better understanding of transmission sources. Of the 63 suspected samples, 55 have been tested, with 12 positive cases identified.
Nine cases are from Gujarat, three from Rajasthan, and eight reports are pending. The Health Department reported that eight of the confirmed patients have died. District-wise, cases have been reported in various regions, prompting intensified surveillance in affected areas.
Samples from suspected cases are sent to the Gujarat Biotechnology Research Centre for testing, with Rapid Response Teams conducting investigations and surveillance. Vector control measures, health screenings, and awareness activities are being implemented to combat the virus spread.
