The Gujarat State Monitoring Cell confiscated Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) valued at over Rs 1.49 crore in a raid on the Vadodara-Ahmedabad Express Highway near Bibipura village in Ahmedabad Rural. The operation took place on the night of June 9-10 near Bibipura in Daskroi taluka.
Acting on specific information, a team from the State Monitoring Cell intercepted a Tata truck led by Police Inspector Y.J. Rathod. The truck was allegedly carrying a large quantity of liquor into the state, breaching Gujarat’s prohibition laws. The team discovered 1,300 boxes containing 49,224 bottles of IMFL, with a total value of Rs 1,49,22,312. Additionally, the police seized the truck, valued at Rs 25 lakh, and a mobile phone worth Rs 5,000.
The seized property’s total worth is estimated at Rs 1,74,27,512. A case has been filed under various sections of the Gujarat Prohibition Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. The truck driver, identified as Iqbalkhan Khan from Rajasthan, was arrested and handed over for further investigation.
Police have identified three wanted individuals in connection with the case. These include alleged liquor supplier Surendra Gurjar, the truck owner, and an unidentified person in Rajkot who was supposed to receive the consignment. Authorities are actively tracing the supply chain and other participants in the interstate smuggling network.
This seizure is part of a series of significant prohibition-related operations conducted in Gujarat recently. Earlier this month, liquor worth more than Rs 1.51 crore was seized near Bharudi village in Rajkot district. In January, police in central Gujarat confiscated liquor valued at over Rs two crore in various operations across different districts.
