Gandhinagar, Aug 5 (IANS) The Gujarat State Seed Corporation has paid a dividend of Rs 6.33 crore to the Gujarat government for the financial year 2024-25, taking the total dividend paid since the corporation’s inception to Rs 42.82 crore.

Agriculture Minister Jitu Vaghani and Minister of State for Agriculture, Ramesh Katara, presented the dividend cheque to Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel in Gandhinagar on Wednesday.

Established to ensure the supply of high-quality certified seeds to farmers across Gujarat, the Gujarat State Seed Corporation has expanded its production and distribution over the years.

According to the state government, seed production and distribution have increased from 1,070 quintals produced and 835 quintals distributed during its initial years to 3,34,739 quintals produced and distributed in 2024-25.

The corporation markets its seeds under the “GURABINI” brand, which the government said has established demand both within Gujarat and in other states.

“With the resolve to ensure farmers’ prosperity, the Gujarat State Seed Corporation has achieved another significant milestone. Since its establishment, the Corporation has contributed a total dividend of Rs 42.82 crore to the state government, reflecting its efficiency, transparent functioning and sound management,” Vaghani said.

He further noted, “Under the visionary guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the capable leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the Gujarat government continues to move forward with its commitment to farmers’ welfare, agricultural development and the vision of a self-reliant Gujarat.”

The corporation also contributes a significant share of the state’s certified seed requirements. It accounts for 30 per cent of spice seeds, 19 per cent of cereal seeds, 14 per cent of pulse seeds and 10 per cent of oilseed production and distribution in Gujarat.

The dividend cheque was presented in the presence of Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, Sanjeev Kumar; Principal Secretary of the Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department, R.C. Meena; the corporation’s Managing Director, Rajput; and other senior officials.
