Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill is prioritizing team success over personal achievements in the upcoming IPL 2026 season. Despite being left out of the T20I team for Sanju Samson, Gill remains unfazed, emphasizing his past performances in the IPL where he has excelled.
Gill, who serves as India’s captain in Tests and ODIs, expressed confidence in his abilities, stating that he does not feel the need to prove himself this season. He highlighted the team’s consistency over the years and aims to continue their good performance to secure another title.
In a recent pre-season press conference, Gill criticized the Impact Player rule in cricket, arguing that it makes the game one-dimensional. He believes that the rule, which allows an additional batter, diminishes the skill aspect of the game and favors high-scoring matches on flat pitches.
During the IPL captains and managers meeting, Gill voiced his concerns about the Impact Player rule, which is set to remain until the 2027 season. He emphasized the importance of maintaining the skillful nature of the game and expressed his preference for challenging matches over high-scoring encounters.
Gill reiterated his team-focused approach, stating that his primary goal is to contribute to his team’s victories, whether playing for Gujarat Titans or the Indian team. He emphasized the collective success of the team as his ultimate objective, prioritizing winning matches over personal milestones.
