Gujarat is gearing up to enhance its network of upgraded Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) by launching 114 additional infrastructure projects in the upcoming 2026-27 financial year. Currently, the state is already working on 177 construction, renovation, and modernization projects spread across various regions. These plans were discussed in a recent high-level review meeting of the Labour, Skill Development, and Employment Department in Gandhinagar.

The state’s Cabinet Minister Kunvarji Bavaliya highlighted that these initiatives are part of a broader strategy to bolster the skill development ecosystem in Gujarat. The aim is to equip young individuals with modern skills that align with the evolving demands of industries. Among the ongoing infrastructure projects, 128 are in the active implementation phase, while 48 are in the pre-execution stage, according to the minister.

The infrastructure projects encompass the construction of new ITI buildings, workshops, as well as repair and renovation tasks. Notable projects slated for the coming year include a multi-storey building at Amreli ITI, new workshops at Tarsali ITI, and a hostel at Khedbrahma ITI. Minister Bavaliya stressed the importance of completing all projects within set timelines without compromising on quality standards.

In addition, the government is focusing on ensuring that the benefits of welfare schemes reach workers residing in remote areas promptly and efficiently. Workplace safety is also a key concern, with directives issued to prioritize the health and safety of workers at construction sites, factories, and other workplaces. Minister of State Kantilal Amrutiya mentioned the development of accessibility features for persons with disabilities across ITIs in Gujarat, including ramps, tactile flooring, Braille markings, and accessible toilets.

The review meeting assessed the progress of schemes being implemented by various departments and institutions like the Directorate of Employment and Training, Gujarat Skill Development Mission, and others. Secretary Lochan Sehra emphasized the need for faster, technology-driven administrative processes, while Joint Secretary Tejas Soni presented details on key projects discussed during the meeting, such as the Namo Gujarat Kaushalya and Rojgar Mission.
