Gandhinagar, July 31 (IANS) Gujarat Police will route all telephonic traffic-related complaints through the national emergency helpline ‘112’ from Saturday, replacing the separate toll-free traffic helpline as part of the Central government’s Emergency Response Support System (ERSS).
Under the new arrangement, citizens will be able to register all traffic-related complaints and representations by dialling ‘112’.
The existing toll-free traffic complaint number, 1800 233 1122, has been integrated with the emergency response system after receiving comparatively few complaints, according to the State Traffic Branch on Friday.
The integration is intended to bring traffic complaint services under the single nationwide emergency platform operated through the ERSS.
While the telephone helpline has changed, Gujarat Police said all existing online and app-based channels for submitting traffic complaints will continue to function without any changes.
In a statement on Friday, the State Traffic Branch said: “For the convenience of citizens and to ensure a faster response, Gujarat Police has merged the separate traffic complaint number with the nationwide 112 (Emergency Response Support System – ERSS) helpline. From August 1, 2026, all telephonic traffic-related complaints and representations can be registered only by dialling 112.”
The police have urged residents to use the 112 helpline for all future traffic-related complaints, suggestions and representations and to cooperate in maintaining smooth traffic movement across the state.
The announcement comes as the India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall in parts of Gujarat.
The State Traffic Branch said motorists will also be able to use 112 to seek immediate assistance if heavy rain leads to traffic congestion caused by waterlogging, fallen trees or similar disruptions.
“The police are fully prepared to ensure that motorists do not face difficulties during rain-related emergencies and that traffic is managed smoothly. Instead of remembering different numbers, citizens will now only need to call the single emergency number 112,” the State Traffic Branch said.
From August 1, motorists requiring telephone assistance for traffic-related issues anywhere in Gujarat will therefore need to contact only 112, while digital complaint platforms will continue to remain available.
