Gujarat has been honored with five national awards for its exceptional performance in the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana scheme. The state emerged as the top-performing Category B state during the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy’s “Month of Solar – May 2026” campaign. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi presented the awards at a ceremony in New Delhi marking the scheme’s two-year milestone.
Shalini Agrawal, IAS, Managing Director of Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL), accepted the awards on behalf of the state government. Gujarat was recognized with the PM Surya Ghar Excellence Award for its outstanding implementation and overall performance. Additionally, the state secured the first position nationally in four performance-based categories among Category B states.
During the MNRE-led campaign in May 2026, Gujarat excelled in various aspects related to rooftop solar adoption. The state received a high number of consumer applications, commissioned numerous rooftop solar installations, completed inspections, and registered vendors. These achievements positioned Gujarat at the forefront among all Category B states in the ministry’s assessment.
Gujarat’s success in rooftop solar energy adoption has been attributed to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, and others. The state’s significant progress under the PM Surya Ghar scheme reflects its commitment to renewable energy and cost reduction for consumers. These awards symbolize the collective effort of citizens embracing solar power in Gujarat.
