Gujarat experienced a recent increase in monsoon activity, leading to better rainfall levels across various regions and boosting reservoir capacities. Despite overnight showers, Ahmedabad remained fully operational with no rain-related issues reported by the city’s Monsoon Main Control Room. The State Emergency Operation Centre reported that Gujarat had received 76.92 mm of rainfall by 6 a.m. on Friday, accounting for 8.46% of the state’s average seasonal rainfall.
East-Central Gujarat received 7.58% of its normal monsoon rainfall, while North Gujarat received 4.10% and Kutch only 0.40% of its seasonal average so far. Data indicated that one taluka received between 500 mm and 1,000 mm of rainfall this season, with varying levels in other areas. In Ahmedabad, the city recorded an average seasonal rainfall of 15.81 mm up to 10 a.m. on Friday.
The North West Zone in Ahmedabad recorded the highest cumulative seasonal rainfall at 37.92 mm, followed by the South West Zone and the West Zone. The Central Zone had the lowest seasonal total. The city’s roads, streets, and underpasses were fully functional, with the water level at Vasna Barrage standing at 133.00 feet. No complaints were registered at the Monsoon Main Control Room during the period.
Reservoirs across the state started receiving increased inflows due to the enhanced rainfall. The Sardar Sarovar Dam on the Narmada River held 2,13,605 mcft of water, representing 63.94% of its total storage capacity. The remaining 206 dams in Gujarat collectively held 2,00,846 mcft of water, equivalent to 36% of their combined storage capacity.
