Gurugram Metropolitan City Bus Ltd (GMCBL) has added its first electric bus to the city’s bus fleet, a significant step towards cleaner and sustainable public transportation. The air-conditioned electric bus will undergo a three-day trial on various routes to evaluate its performance under city conditions before regular passenger service.

GMCBL has also launched a new loop card for commuters and enabled UPI-based fare payments across its bus services to enhance public transport convenience. GMDA Chief Executive Officer P.C. Meena emphasized that the induction of the first electric bus signifies a transformative milestone for Gurugram’s public transport system, ushering in a cleaner, smarter, and more sustainable mobility network for the city.

The first electric bus, a fully air-conditioned 25-seater, is the pioneer of a new fleet of electric buses planned for Gurugram. An additional 24 electric buses are set to join the GMCBL fleet soon, with a total of 100 electric buses to be gradually introduced, bolstering the city’s public transport system and providing commuters with a cleaner and more comfortable travel option.

To further enhance passenger convenience, GMCBL has introduced an improved loop card on a trial basis, set to be officially launched soon. This prepaid smart travel card, available for an initial payment of Rs 100, allows passengers to use the entire amount as fare on GMCBL buses, offering a two percent discount on bus fares and supporting online recharge for added convenience.
