A gym owner in Pune was shot and attacked with a sharp weapon in the Sahakar Nagar area. The victim, Yogesh Mahesh Banekar, sustained severe injuries in the assault. Police have arrested four suspects in connection with the incident.
The First Information Report (FIR) filed at Sahakar Nagar Police Station revealed that Banekar was targeted while buying fruits near Bikaner Chowk. The attackers, four men arriving in two vehicles, allegedly fired three shots at Banekar, aiming to kill him.
The accused individuals, identified as Aditya Vishnu Thopte, Aniket Mahadev Shirsat, Rohit Santosh Nachare, and Lakhan alias Lucky Chandrakant Waghmare, are named in the complaint. One of the bullets hit Banekar on the back of his head during the attack.
Banekar tried to escape, but the assailants pursued him. In the process, one of the attackers struck him on the head with an axe-like weapon, causing serious injuries. Banekar was promptly taken to Chinmaya Hospital for medical attention and is currently receiving treatment.
Deputy Commissioner Milind Mohite of Pune Police disclosed that the shooting occurred around 10 p.m. in the Sahakar Nagar Police Station’s jurisdiction. He confirmed that four individuals in two vehicles shot at the gym owner. Mohite mentioned that Banekar is hospitalized and is showing signs of improvement.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear and is under investigation by the authorities. All four suspects are in custody and are being interrogated by the police. Legal action has been initiated against them under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Arms Act, and the Maharashtra Police Act. Further inquiries into the incident are ongoing.
