When Happy Kumari was picked by Gujarat Giants for Rs 10 lakh in the WPL mega auction, her family in Jhunjhunu rejoiced. The 18-year-old pacer’s cricketing journey began unexpectedly five years ago at a summer camp after excelling in athletics.
Initially reluctant to play cricket, Happy’s father’s encouragement led her to a 15-day camp where she found her passion for the sport. With dedicated training and support from her coach Ajay Kumar, Happy transitioned from a reluctant beginner to a promising fast bowler.
Despite facing early morning training sessions and initial skepticism from neighbors, Happy’s family stood by her unwaveringly. Her commitment to cricket, nurtured by her coach and family’s support, led her to excel in both batting and fast bowling.
Happy’s hard work paid off in 2024 with significant achievements in domestic cricket, setting the stage for her selection in the WPL 2026. With a focus on fast bowling and a dream to represent India, Happy sees the WPL as a crucial stepping stone towards her ultimate goal.
