Fourth seeds Harmeet Desai and Yashaswini Ghorpade effortlessly advanced to the mixed doubles final in the WTT Star Contender Chennai 2026. They dominated the all-Indian semifinal, defeating Payas Jain and Syndrela Das 3-0.
In the upcoming final, Desai and Ghorpade will compete against second seeds Eduard Ionescu and Bernadette Szocs from Romania. Ionescu and Szocs progressed after their opponents from Korea and Japan conceded the match while trailing 1-2.
Meanwhile, Sathiyan G. secured his place in the men’s singles quarterfinals after a hard-fought victory. He overcame a 1-2 deficit to defeat Ionescu 3-2 and will now face Czechia’s Lubomir Jancarik in the next round.
Snehit Suravajjula’s impressive performance was halted as he lost 3-1 against top seed Oh Jun-sung. Oh Jun-sung received a walkover in the quarterfinals due to an injury sustained during the mixed doubles semifinals.
The Indian challenge in women’s singles concluded with Nithya Mani’s defeat against Cheng I-Ching from Chinese Taipei. Nithya, ranked world no. 481, was eliminated in the pre-quarterfinals after causing an upset in the second round against Jee of Australia.
