Rohtak, Aug 1 (IANS) A 23-year-old woman, identified as Muskan, the wife of international kabaddi player Sheelu Balhara, allegedly died by suicide at her residence in Haryana’s Rohtak district.

According to NDTV, Muskan, a resident of the Meham area of Rohtak, had married Balhara in December 2023.

The couple welcomed their son, Hardik, in November last year.

Following information about the incident, police officials reached the spot on Friday and initiated an investigation.

A forensic team was also called in to examine the site and collect evidence.

Authorities said the exact reason behind the alleged suicide has not yet been established, and further investigation is underway.

According to reports, Muskan had shared a reel on a Punjabi song on social media a day before the incident.

Investigators are examining all aspects of the case, including her recent activities and personal circumstances.

The incident has once again drawn attention to a series of similar cases reported across the country in recent months.

Just days ago, a government school teacher allegedly died by suicide in Uttarakhand’s Dehradun.

The woman, Srishti Kandhari, was reportedly facing mental and physical harassment from her husband and in-laws.

Kandhari had married Saurabh Raturi, also a government employee, in November last year. The couple lived in the Doiwala area, around 20 km from Dehradun.

In a complaint lodged with the police, Kandhari’s mother alleged that her daughter was subjected to repeated harassment over dowry and was frequently called “unlucky” and “inauspicious” by her husband and his family.

Before her death, Kandhari recorded a video message that later surfaced online. In the emotional recording, she spoke about the difficulties she had allegedly endured during the six months following her marriage and claimed she could no longer bear the treatment she was receiving.

In another case reported earlier this year, 33-year-old model and actor Twisha Sharma was found dead at her matrimonial home in Bhopal on May 12, just five months after her marriage. Her family alleged that she had been subjected to harassment over dowry demands by her husband, lawyer Samarth Singh, and his mother, retired judge Giribala Singh. The accused have denied the allegations.

Similarly, in June, a 24-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide at her matrimonial home in Delhi’s Nangloi area. Before her death, she reportedly recorded a video in which she accused her in-laws of harassment.
