Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini emphasized the need for swift completion of the Gurugram water supply channel to ensure adequate drinking water supply in Gurugram. The channel, stretching 70 km from Kakroi head in Sonipat to Basai water works, is set to deliver 686 cusecs of water to Gurugram, catering to the city’s water needs until 2050. The project, costing around Rs 1,993 crore, involves laying an underground pipeline to prevent water theft.

The Chief Minister stressed the importance of increasing the channel’s capacity to 1,000 cusecs to serve a larger population for an extended period. Officials highlighted that apart from the new channel, Gurugram will also benefit from 500 cusecs of water from the NCR canal, totaling an expected supply of 1,500 cusecs in the future. Furthermore, provisions are being made to allocate 389 cusecs of drinking water specifically for the Mewat region.

Instructing for transparent execution and adherence to high-quality standards, the Chief Minister underscored the project’s significance for the public. He set a target of completing the water supply project within two and a half years, urging continuous monitoring and aiming for an early completion by about three months. With Gurugram’s population growing rapidly and evolving into a megacity, he emphasized the government’s duty to ensure uninterrupted access to clean drinking water for all residents.
