The Haryana government has expanded the number of exclusive fast-track Special NDPS Courts to 21. These new courts include one each at the level of Additional Sessions Judge in Faridabad, Gurugram, Panchkula, Rohtak, and Yamunanagar. In Fatehabad, the total number of Special NDPS courts has increased to three with the addition of two new courts. Moreover, Sirsa now has a total of seven Special NDPS Courts, with the establishment of six new ones.
The phased introduction of these new courts aims to speed up the resolution of NDPS cases and reduce the backlog of pending litigation. Director General of Police, Ajay Singhal, emphasized the government’s strong stance against drug traffickers, stating that no leniency will be shown towards those harming the state’s youth. The state government is dedicated to eradicating the drug network by bolstering law enforcement, prosecution, and the judicial system.
The police in Haryana are implementing a zero-tolerance policy towards drug traffickers, focusing on a comprehensive strategy to dismantle the narcotics ecosystem. This approach includes rigorous police action, intelligence gathering, financial investigations, asset attachment, public awareness campaigns, and expedited judicial processes. To combat drug trafficking effectively, the Haryana State Narcotics Control Bureau operates a 24/7 Anti-Drug Helpline for residents to report drug-related activities confidentially.
