In response to declining sex ratio concerns, the Haryana government took strict action by suspending four senior medical officers for alleged poor performance. The suspension, ordered by Additional Chief Secretary Dr. Sumita Misra, reflects the government’s firm stance against negligence in implementing programs to combat illegal sex determination and female foeticide. The suspended officers include Dr. Tina Anand, Dr. Vijay Parmar, Dr. Satpal, and Dr. Prabha, stationed at various health centers across the state.
During their suspension, these officers will be attached to the offices of Civil Surgeons in different districts. The government has also initiated disciplinary proceedings against them under the Haryana Civil Services (Punishment and Appeal) Rules, 2016. The reason cited for the action is their failure to ensure effective monitoring and implementation of measures aimed at improving the sex ratio in the state.
Haryana has witnessed a decline in its sex ratio, with the current ratio standing at 895, a significant drop from the previous year’s 925. Districts like Charkhi Dadri, Ambala, Mahendragarh, Gurugram, and Jind reported particularly low ratios. On the other hand, Karnal leads with the highest sex ratio at 968 girls per 1,000 boys, followed by Faridabad, Kurukshetra, Palwal, and Nuh, which also performed well in this aspect.
