A concerning health incident occurred at Government Middle School in Baluaha, Saharsa, where more than 250 children fell ill after consuming a mid-day meal. Complaints of stomach aches, vomiting, and dizziness arose among the students, causing panic at the school. The affected children were promptly taken to Mahishi Health Centre for medical treatment.
The sudden health issues led to chaos among teachers, parents, and local residents as the children’s conditions deteriorated. Doctors and health workers at the health facility were overwhelmed by the influx of sick children, necessitating continuous examination and treatment. The meal served, comprising rice and lentils, triggered severe reactions in many students shortly after consumption.
Rohit Kumar, a Class 5 student, reported experiencing stomach pain, vomiting, and dizziness after the mid-day meal. Shivani, a Class 7 student, also noted that numerous children fell sick after eating the school food. District officials and Health Department representatives rushed to the scene upon learning of the incident to assess the situation and ensure proper care for the affected students.
Civil Surgeon Dr. Rajnarayan Prasad and health officials visited Mahishi to oversee the treatment of the ill children. While the students’ conditions are stable, parents were urged not to panic. An investigation has been launched into the incident, with samples of the meal sent for laboratory testing to identify the cause of the suspected food poisoning. Dr. Prasad confirmed the cases of food poisoning and assured that all affected children are receiving necessary medical attention.
