A tense moment unfolded in the Maharashtra Assembly during the budget session as members of the ruling alliance clashed over a “Calling Attention Motion” concerning bonuses for the state’s paddy farmers. Senior BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar criticized Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies, Yogesh Kadam, for delays in addressing the issue. Mungantiwar emphasized the struggles of around 7 lakh farmers awaiting the bonus announcement despite previous directives from the Chief Minister.
The exchange intensified as Mungantiwar pressed Kadam for concrete actions rather than vague promises, highlighting the prolonged delay in issuing a Government Resolution (GR) regarding the bonuses. Despite Kadam presenting data on bonus distribution in recent years, Mungantiwar expressed dissatisfaction, advocating for fair treatment of all registered farmers regardless of finalizing sales. He criticized the department for lack of proactive measures and termed the Minister’s unpreparedness as an affront to the Constitution.
Expectations are high for a favorable decision towards farmers following this initial Calling Attention Motion of the session. Mungantiwar’s insistence on prompt action and equitable treatment for paddy growers resonated throughout the heated exchange, underscoring the urgency of addressing the farmers’ concerns.
