A heated exchange unfolded in the Rajasthan Assembly during Question Hour regarding homeless families in Bharatpur, sparking intense arguments between ministers and the opposition. The dispute arose when Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) MLA Subhash Garg inquired about the number of homeless families in Bharatpur and those eligible for the Prime Minister’s Housing Scheme (PM Awas Yojana).
Urban Development and Housing (UDH) Minister Jhabar Singh Kharra responded by stating that a report from the District Collector would be obtained to provide details on landless families if needed. Unsatisfied with the response, Subhash Garg pressed the minister to reveal the exact count of homeless families.
As the minister elaborated on the PM Awas Yojana’s eligibility criteria, Garg questioned whether the Homeless Policy-2022 included a provision for surveying homeless families, emphasizing the need for a clear yes or no answer. The situation escalated into a confrontation between Parliamentary Affairs Minister Jogaram Patel and Leader of Opposition Tikaram Juli.
Taking a dig at the ministers standing up during the UDH Minister’s response, Juli commented, “There is no need for lawyers here.” Patel retorted, suggesting Juli ask questions instead of delivering speeches. Juli defended himself, stating he was presenting facts and criticized Patel for misinterpreting his intentions.
