Actor Tovino Thomas, starring in the upcoming Malayalam film ‘Pallichattambi’, revealed how a church set for the movie was so authentic that an elderly person mistook it for a real church and prayed there. Thomas, in an interview, discussed the challenges faced in recreating the 1958 era for the film. Despite lacking personal experience of the 1950s, the team relied on old photographs and book descriptions for set design.
The film crew transformed an area in Thodupuzha into a village setting, complete with a church. Thomas recounted an incident where an elderly lady actually prayed in the church set, mistaking it for a real place. The crew, though touched by her gesture, refrained from correcting her, appreciating the set’s realism.
Director Dijo Jose Antony’s meticulous work in creating the village set impressed Thomas during filming. The set, including shops, buildings, and the church, gave the illusion of a real village. Despite being located by a dam, the area was convincingly transformed for the movie shoot.
