Heavy rain hit several areas of Assam, causing floods in Silchar town of Cachar district and parts of Sribhumi district in the Barak Valley region. The downpour led to waterlogging in low-lying areas of Cachar, Sribhumi, and Hailakandi districts, disrupting normal life and traffic flow. In Silchar town, roads were submerged, resulting in significant traffic congestion across various neighborhoods.
In Sribhumi town, drains overflowed due to intense rainfall, leading to waterlogging in multiple areas. Tragically, one person in Sribhumi district lost their life after reportedly touching a live electric wire during the rain. Authorities are investigating the incident where the victim was electrocuted in a waterlogged area. Local officials and disaster response teams are on high alert as more rain is expected in the region in the coming hours.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rainfall in various parts of Assam. The Regional Meteorological Centre in Guwahati reported active rain-bearing cloud systems in the northeastern region, with significant precipitation around Guwahati.
