Due to a well-marked low-pressure area, the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Kolkata’s Alipore has forecasted heavy rain in south Bengal districts, including Kolkata, until Saturday. Thunderstorms are also likely to occur across the state throughout the week.
South Bengal districts are anticipated to face more thunderstorms until the upcoming Saturday, with a potential increase in their intensity thereafter. Most districts are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, particularly those adjacent to Kolkata.
An official from RMC has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms and rain across south Bengal until the following Saturday. The weather conditions may also bring gusty winds blowing at speeds of up to 50 kilometers per hour in certain areas.
The forecast indicates increased rainfall on Tuesday in Howrah, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, East Midnapore, and West Midnapore districts. Additionally, heavy rain is expected in East Midnapore and South 24 Parganas on Wednesday.
Further thunderstorms are likely in West Midnapore, Jhargram, and Bankura districts, with heavy rain predicted in several districts on Thursday. The trend continues with more rain expected in other districts on Friday.
According to the Met Department official, the skies may clear slightly in south Bengal districts starting Saturday, leading to a decrease in thunderstorms. However, the risk of severe weather events may rise in northern districts from that day onwards.
