Continuous heavy rainfall in Mumbai and nearby areas has severely impacted daily life, leading the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to release a weather advisory cautioning residents about intense rainfall, strong winds, and high tides. The city and suburbs are forecasted to experience ongoing rain, with some areas expecting very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall and gusty winds of 60-70 kmph.
The BMC has advised vigilance, especially in flood-prone low-lying regions, as high tides measuring 4.08 meters and 3.44 meters are expected on Monday and Tuesday, respectively. Notably, Mumbai city received 105.24 mm of rainfall, while the eastern and western suburbs saw 161.11 mm and 159.40 mm, respectively, within a 24-hour period.
Railway operations have been significantly affected, with services running on a limited basis due to waterlogging between Vasai Road and Virar stations. A landslide between Karjat and Lonavala has further disrupted train services, prompting Central Railway to establish helplines for passenger assistance.
Despite the challenges, local train services on all four corridors were operational with slight delays, while traffic disruptions on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway and old Mumbai-Pune Highway have led to temporary suspensions. Flood-like situations in Maval and Tamhini Ghat have also impacted travel routes between Pune and Mumbai.
Authorities are actively responding to incidents, including a reported landslide at Patan village and improved water reserves in Mumbai due to heavy rainfall. The Thane Municipal Corporation has addressed various rain-related complaints, emphasizing citizen safety and adherence to official guidelines during the adverse weather conditions.
