Maharashtra faced severe disruption due to heavy rainfall, affecting districts like Mumbai and Pune. Schools in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and Haveli Taluka were closed, and private offices in Mumbai were advised to allow work from home. The India Meteorological Department issued an Orange Alert for Mumbai due to ongoing heavy rainfall, causing waterlogging and traffic congestion.
Authorities in Pune declared a holiday for all schools to ensure student safety amid landslides and weather warnings. The district administration urged residents to stay indoors unless necessary and directed school staff to assist in disaster management. The Bhima River’s water level rose significantly, raising concerns about potential floods in low-lying areas.
Heavy rainfall in Indapur led to a substantial inflow into the Ujani Dam, increasing water levels. The dam’s storage saw a notable rise, improving from minus 27.96% to minus 20.21% due to continuous inflow. Mumbai and its suburbs continued to experience relentless rainfall, with the BMC activating emergency response measures.
The BMC deployed teams to address incidents like tree falls and structural collapses, while high-capacity pumps were used to clear waterlogged areas. A Special General Body Meeting is scheduled to discuss rain-related preparedness and infrastructure challenges.
