The Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai has predicted heavy rainfall in 19 districts of Tamil Nadu on Monday, bringing relief from the intense summer heat. The recent showers have cooled down several areas of the state, with the weather department attributing the rain to favorable atmospheric conditions caused by an upper-air cyclonic circulation over the southeast Arabian Sea and adjoining regions, along with a low-pressure system affecting Kerala and nearby areas.
Various districts in Tamil Nadu, including Namakkal, Erode, and Dharmapuri, experienced widespread rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms. Residents welcomed the sudden change in weather, as areas like Erode, which had been facing severe heat, saw a drop in temperatures due to the rain. Motorists in Dharmapuri district faced challenges due to heavy rain, strong winds, and poor visibility, leading to cautious driving with headlights on.
Additionally, regions like Vaniyambadi in Tirupattur district witnessed heavy winds and hailstorms, causing waterlogging in low-lying areas. Krishnagiri district and nearby areas such as Kaveripattinam, Bargur, and Allapatti also reported heavy rainfall. Singampunari and surrounding regions in Sivaganga district experienced heavy showers for over an hour. The weather department has forecasted heavy rainfall with strong winds in districts like Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Theni, and Dindigul on Monday and Tuesday.
Furthermore, districts like Erode, Tiruppur, Salem, Vellore, and Madurai are expected to receive heavy rainfall, along with predictions for light rain in Chennai during the evening or night hours. The forecast also includes the likelihood of strong winds with speeds ranging between 40 and 50 kmph in certain areas.
