The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has predicted heavy rainfall in eight districts of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday due to prevailing atmospheric conditions over the Bay of Bengal and adjoining seas. An atmospheric circulation stretching from the central-east Bay of Bengal to the southeast Arabian Sea is expected to impact weather patterns across the state. Heavy rainfall is anticipated in hilly regions of Coimbatore and Tiruppur districts, as well as in Nilgiris, Erode, Salem, Theni, Dindigul, and Kanyakumari districts.
The weather department has cautioned that these areas may experience intense rainfall during the day, urging residents in vulnerable areas, especially in hill districts, to exercise caution as heavy showers could disrupt transportation and daily activities. Moderate rainfall is also expected in one or two places across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry from Wednesday through May 29, with rain activity persisting due to the existing atmospheric circulation system.
Chennai and its surrounding regions are forecasted to have generally cloudy skies in the next 24 hours, with moderate rain and brief showers likely in some parts of the city. Despite the anticipated rainfall, Chennai is expected to maintain higher temperatures, with hot and humid conditions prevailing in various parts of the city. Weather experts have highlighted that the combination of heat and moisture might lead to uncomfortable daytime conditions even amidst intermittent rainfall.
Meteorologists have observed that while the rain-bearing system could offer relief in districts receiving significant showers, urban centers like Chennai are likely to continue experiencing humid weather conditions. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and may issue additional advisories based on further developments in the weather.
