The India Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rainfall in various parts of Tamil Nadu over the next three days. Despite the ongoing intense summer heat, with temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius in multiple districts, the Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai reported that 12 locations in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry recorded temperatures above 37.8 degrees Celsius, signaling a gradual increase in the heat levels as summer progresses.
Vellore recorded the highest temperature in the state at 42.2 degrees Celsius, while cities like Tiruchirappalli, Chennai (Meenambakkam), and Madurai airport experienced temperatures around 40 degrees. Other areas such as Madurai city, Tirupattur, and Dharmapuri saw temperatures reaching approximately 39.4 degrees Celsius. Districts like Erode, Karur, Paramathi, and Tiruttani observed temperatures near 38.9 degrees Celsius, with Nagapattinam recording about 38.3 degrees.
The weather department cautioned that high humidity levels might lead to increased discomfort, intensifying the perception of heat. Meteorologists highlighted that the combination of rising temperatures and moisture in the air could trigger localized thunderstorms and heavy rainfall in parts of the state over the next three days. While the expected rainfall could offer temporary relief from the heat, it may also bring gusty winds and lightning in isolated areas.
Authorities advised residents to take precautions against heat-related illnesses, especially during peak afternoon hours. Vulnerable groups, including the elderly, children, and individuals with pre-existing health conditions, were urged to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. The transition period between peak summer and pre-monsoon activities often results in unstable weather patterns across Tamil Nadu, with fluctuating weather conditions expected in the coming days, emphasizing the importance of vigilance and readiness.
