The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has predicted heavy rainfall in 10 districts of Tamil Nadu on February 21 due to a low-pressure system forming over the Bay of Bengal. Dry weather is expected until February 18, with the system likely to intensify gradually, bringing changes in weather patterns across the state.
On February 19, light to moderate rainfall is anticipated in isolated areas of the southern coastal districts and the Delta region of Tamil Nadu. As the system strengthens, rainfall activity is set to increase. Moderate rainfall is expected on February 20 in various parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
The impact is projected to be more significant on February 21, with heavy rainfall expected in districts like Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, and Pudukkottai in the Delta region. Southern Tamil Nadu may also experience heavy rain in Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Kanniyakumari, and Tenkasi districts.
By February 22, districts such as Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, and Kanniyakumari could face heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Fishermen are advised to be cautious, especially in the southern coastal areas, as sea conditions may become rough due to the system’s intensity.
Residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas are urged to stay vigilant and follow official advisories. Authorities are closely monitoring the low-pressure system’s development, with further updates to be provided as it progresses.
