The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has predicted heavy rainfall in parts of western and northern Tamil Nadu over the next three days. Areas such as Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, and Vellore districts are expected to experience significant rainfall. The weather department attributes this forecast to an atmospheric circulation over the southeast Arabian Sea and nearby regions, along with an active low-pressure area over Kerala and its surrounding areas.
Nilgiris, Erode, Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupathur, Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, and Kallakurichi districts are likely to witness heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds on Saturday and Sunday. Additionally, isolated rainfall is anticipated in districts like Perambalur, Tiruchirappalli, Namakkal, Karur, Dindigul, Theni, and Madurai. The weather department has issued warnings for heavy rainfall in hilly regions like Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Nilgiris, Theni, Dindigul, Erode, Namakkal, Salem, Madurai, Dharmapuri, and Krishnagiri on May 25 and 26.
Chennai is forecasted to have partly cloudy skies with the possibility of heat wave-like conditions in some areas despite isolated cloud cover. Meanwhile, as rain is expected in various districts, temperatures in Tamil Nadu remain high. On Friday, 16 locations in the state recorded notably high temperatures, with Erode registering the highest at around 42 degrees C and Chennai-Meenambakkam following closely at 41 degrees C. Several other areas experienced temperatures near 40 degrees C, indicating intense summer heat.
The contrasting weather patterns of heavy rain warnings in certain districts and soaring temperatures in others highlight the ongoing complex seasonal transition across Tamil Nadu.
