Veteran Bollywood star Hema Malini shared how she felt initially disappointed when she was introduced to the audience as the “Dream Girl.” She expressed her dismay at her name being absent from the promotional campaign of her debut film, with only the title “Dream Girl” featured on the posters.

During a special episode of the singing reality show ‘Indian Idol,’ the legendary actress reminisced about how the iconic title became associated with her long before the release of her 1977 film ‘Dream Girl.’ Hema narrated an incident where the title was first used during the promotion of her initial movie, ‘Sapno Ka Saudagar,’ despite her name not being mentioned, leading to her eventual identification as the ‘Dream Girl.’

Host Aditya Narayan inquired about the making of the film ‘Dream Girl’ and its timeless song ‘Kisi Shayar Ki Ghazal,’ prompting Hema Malini to recall fond memories of the shoot. She reflected on the extensive shooting schedule for the song, the film’s production details, and the decision behind naming the movie ‘Dream Girl’ due to its alignment with her character’s prominence in the storyline.

Singer Shreya Ghoshal chimed in, noting that Hema’s iconic persona was the inspiration behind the film’s title. Acknowledging this, Hema Malini agreed, emphasizing how the moniker “Dream Girl” gained more significance with each successful film she starred in.
