Veteran actress Hema Malini expressed her gratitude to the Government of India for honoring her late husband, Dharmendra, with the Padma Vibhushan award, the country’s second-highest civilian honor. Dharmendra, a Bollywood icon, was posthumously announced as a recipient of the prestigious award, along with Satish Shah, who received the Padma Shri posthumously. Other notable personalities from the industry recognized with Padma Awards include Mammootty, Alka Yagnik, and Piyush Pandey.

Dharmendra, who passed away last year, was a beloved figure in Indian cinema. Born in Punjab in 1935, he entered the film industry in the early 1960s after winning a talent hunt competition organized by Filmfare magazine and Bimal Roy Productions. Known for his charisma and looks, Dharmendra’s career spanned decades, leaving a lasting impact on Bollywood.

Having left a legacy in the film industry, Dharmendra’s passing in November last year marked the end of an era. After a brief hospitalization and subsequent discharge, he faced health complications that led to his demise. The news of his death was met with an outpouring of tributes from fellow actors and industry members, highlighting his significant contributions to Indian cinema.
