The High-Level Task Force on Infrastructure and Connectivity in the Northeastern region conducted a virtual meeting to assess and expedite ongoing projects. The meeting, attended by officials from eight states including Sikkim, focused on reviewing current projects, enhancing inter-state connectivity, and fast-tracking infrastructure development for sustainable growth. Participants included Union Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma, and senior officials from all eight Northeastern states. Minister Scindia emphasized the importance of infrastructure, logistics, and connectivity aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Act East, Act Fast and Act First’ vision. The meeting also discussed multimodal and digital connectivity to unlock growth opportunities in the region. Tripura Chief Minister highlighted the need for improved connectivity and sustainable development. Mizoram Chief Minister stressed the strategic importance of connectivity with Southeast Asian countries and urged the completion of the Kaladan Multimodal Transit Transport Project in Myanmar. He emphasized extending railway connectivity in Mizoram and improving road infrastructure for better connectivity between eastern and western Mizoram. The Chief Minister proposed developing Sairang and Lawngtlai as multimodal hubs and emphasized the importance of durable infrastructure, especially concrete roads for protection during the monsoon season. Several proposals were discussed to enhance connectivity and reduce logistics costs in the region. The Task Force is nearing completion of its report, with a focus on integrated development of the North East Economic Corridor. The task forces were established following the 72nd plenary session of the North-Eastern Council (NEC) last year in Agartala, chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
