Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu traveled to Bara Bhangal, the state’s remotest village in Kangra district, reaching an altitude of over 2,800 meters by helicopter. He is the first Chief Minister to stay overnight in the village, known for its nomadic residents engaged in sheep and cattle rearing. Bara Bhangal, nestled between the Dhauladhar and Pir Panjal ranges of the Himalayas, boasts nearly 500 electorates.
Sukhu, accompanied by local legislator Kishori Lal, addressed the concerns of the villagers and made significant announcements during his visit. He pledged a monthly financial assistance of Rs 1,500 to eligible women under the Indira Gandhi Pyari Behna Sukh Samman Nidhi Yojana. Additionally, plans were unveiled to install generator sets for round-the-clock electricity supply and to incentivize education for school-going children from Bara Bhangal.
The Chief Minister outlined a vision for developing Bara Bhangal as an eco-tourism destination and assured support for natural farming initiatives, including a minimum support price for rajmah cultivation. He emphasized the procurement of mutton from local sheep rearers and promised comprehensive assistance to enhance their livelihoods. Sukhu also conducted an assessment of recent natural disasters’ impact on the Dhauladhar Wildlife Sanctuary, part of which includes Bara Bhangal.
