Ahead of the upcoming two-phased Assembly election in West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu took aim at the ruling Trinamool Congress. He highlighted that the Trinamool Congress in West Bengal does not travel to Delhi to counter the BJP, contrasting it with the Congress’ role as the primary opposition party. Sukhu supported Rahul Gandhi’s view that the BJP and Trinamool are akin to “two sides of the same coin.”
Sukhu emphasized that Rahul Gandhi is the one in Delhi who opposes the BJP, while urging the people of West Bengal to back Congress candidates. Notably, the Congress has fielded contenders for all 294 seats in West Bengal for the first time in two decades. Sukhu pointed out that despite a 50-year absence in Bengal, the Congress is now presenting candidates aligned with its principles across all constituencies.
The Himachal CM stressed the importance of voting for Congress, highlighting its status as the principal opposition party nationally. He criticized the timing of the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in West Bengal just before the elections. Sukhu also addressed the controversy between Trinamool and BJP regarding food choices, asserting that everyone has the right to eat freely in a democratic nation.
He condemned the exploitation of such issues for political gain during elections, emphasizing the need to focus on issues like job creation and state development. Sukhu reaffirmed that the Congress, being the largest party, will persist as the primary opposition party in the future.
