The Himachal Pradesh government has announced that due to financial constraints, no government employee will receive extensions or re-employment. The Department of Personnel has issued formal orders enforcing this decision. Administrative departments are instructed not to propose service extensions for retiring officers or employees, with the government emphasizing that such requests will not be entertained in the future. However, employees currently on extension or reappointment will continue until the end of their tenure, after which they will be relieved.
Last month, the government revoked the ‘Cabinet Rank’ status from several authorities, including Chairpersons, Vice-Chairpersons, and Political Advisors, as part of efforts to streamline administrative procedures. Additionally, 20% of the affected authorities’ salaries and emoluments will be deferred until September 30. The Chief Minister, Sukhvinder Sukhu, presenting the Economic Survey for 2021-22, highlighted the state’s estimated Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) growth at around 10.1% in the current fiscal year, reflecting a robust economy despite global challenges.
The GSDP for 2025-26 is projected at approximately Rs 2.54 lakh crore at current prices, indicating an 8.3% real growth rate. The state’s economy is expected to expand by 8.3%, showcasing resilience and adaptability. Notably, the primary sector’s gross state value added is forecasted to increase by 8.4% at constant prices in the upcoming fiscal year.
