In a disturbing incident in Damudya upazila of Shariatpur district, Bangladesh, a Hindu man named Khokon Chandra Das was brutally hacked, injured, and set on fire by a group of attackers. The victim, a 50-year-old who runs a business in Keurbhanga Bazar, was returning home when the assailants stopped his vehicle, attacked him, and then set him ablaze. Due to his critical condition, Khokon Chandra Das has been transferred to Dhaka for advanced medical treatment.
The attack took place near Keurbhanga Bazar in Kaneshwar Union, with the victim being targeted while on his way home after closing his shop. Local reports from ‘Prothom Alo’ revealed that after the assault, Khokon Chandra Das managed to escape the mob by jumping into a nearby pond. He was later rescued by locals and taken to Shariatpur Sadar Hospital for initial treatment before being referred to Dhaka for further medical care.
Authorities at Damudya Police Station have confirmed the incident, stating that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the identified attackers, Rabbi and Sohag. The victim suffered multiple injuries, including severe burns on his head, face, and hands, requiring specialized medical attention in Dhaka. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, as the victim’s family denies having any disputes or enmity in the area.
