Prime Minister Narendra Modi has advised activist Sonam Wangchuk to prioritize his health and follow medical guidance to recover after ending his 26-day hunger strike. PM Modi, in a message on X, emphasized the importance of Wangchuk adhering to doctors’ recommendations in his daily routine to swiftly regain his previous weight. The Prime Minister extended his prayers for Wangchuk’s well-being, following the activist breaking his fast at Safdarjung Hospital in the presence of Union Ministers and other dignitaries.

The Central government, under PM Modi’s leadership, has developed a comprehensive draft Bill aimed at implementing stricter measures and harsher penalties for incidents of paper leaks. This proposal is set for deliberation during the upcoming Union Cabinet meeting and is anticipated to be tabled and approved in the current session of Parliament next week. Wangchuk’s hunger strike had garnered significant national attention, prompting appeals from various political figures and civil society organizations for him to conclude the fast.

Sonam Wangchuk highlighted that his decision to end the hunger strike was influenced by consultations on certain conditions and stressed the imperative of avoiding any forms of violence. This development signifies the conclusion of one of the lengthiest hunger strikes by a prominent activist in recent memory, shedding light on the political intricacies surrounding Ladakh’s aspirations and the wider discourse on governance and environmental protection in the region.
