A significant moment unfolded in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region as 47 villages marked Republic Day for the first time on January 26. These villages in Bijapur, Narayanpur, and Sukma, where national festivals were previously not celebrated, witnessed the unfurling of the Tricolour, signifying a step towards democratic restoration and social change.
Improvements in the security situation in Bastar have been notable over the past two years, attributed to a coordinated approach by the Central and state governments, sustained anti-Maoist operations, and increased cooperation from local communities. The establishment of 59 new security camps in Maoist-affected areas has ensured a lasting administrative and security presence, fostering an environment conducive to democratic traditions.
The participation of local residents in Republic Day ceremonies reflects a growing trust in governance and the rule of law in once sensitive and inaccessible areas. With over 100 operational security camps in Bastar, not only has security been bolstered but development activities have also gained momentum. Basic amenities like roads, schools, healthcare services, and banking facilities are gradually reaching remote villages, marking a positive shift in the region’s landscape.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai emphasized the region’s progress towards peace and development, crediting the efforts under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The Tricolour waving in these villages symbolizes peace, democracy, and a fresh start for Bastar.
