Thiruvananthapuram-headquartered HLL Lifecare Limited has obtained ISO 9001:2015 certification for its nationwide retail pharmacy operations, covering 239 centers in India, including AMRIT Pharmacies, AMRIT Opticals, HLL Pharmacy & Surgicals, and HLL Opticals. This certification is a significant move towards standardizing quality in its expanding public healthcare services, aiming to improve operational consistency, transparency, and patient trust. The milestone coincides with the Mini Ratna public sector enterprise’s Diamond Jubilee and a decade of its AMRIT initiative under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
The AMRIT program, initiated in 2015 at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, has rapidly expanded into a nationwide network across 24 States and five Union Territories, serving over 72.96 million patients. By providing medicines, implants, and consumables at discounts of up to 50%, AMRIT has played a crucial role in reducing out-of-pocket expenses for patients, especially those receiving treatment at major government hospitals. The initiative has dispensed medicines worth Rs 18,817.42 crore at maximum retail price, resulting in estimated savings of Rs 9,235.78 crore for patients.
The ISO certification is viewed as a key driver for HLL’s future growth, aligning its retail operations with global quality standards while upholding its core mission of affordable healthcare access. With a strong legacy of over six decades, HLL is evolving as a diversified healthcare enterprise, utilizing scale, technology, and policy backing to extend its presence and influence within India’s public health sector.
