Hockey India has named Frenchman Frederic Soyez as the new coach for the Indian junior men’s hockey team. Soyez, a highly experienced figure in European hockey, brings with him over three decades of elite hockey involvement, including playing internationally for France for 15 years and coaching at the highest levels for over 15 years.
Soyez, who had a successful playing career with France from 1995 to 2010, earning 196 international caps and scoring 195 goals, has previously coached the national men’s teams of France and Spain. He has significant experience at three Olympic Games, coaching Spain in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020, and leading France in Paris 2024.
Having guided Spain to a silver medal at the 2019 European Championships and achieving quarter-final finishes at the Rio and Tokyo Olympics, Soyez also coached France to a historic silver medal at the FIH Junior Men’s World Cup in Delhi in 2013.
