Hockey India has unveiled the 18-player women’s team set to compete in the U18 Asia Cup in Kakamigahara, Japan from May 29 to June 6. The squad, captained by Sweety Kujur, underwent rigorous training in Bhopal to enhance their performance and tactical skills under the guidance of coach Rani Rampal.
The upcoming tournament presents a valuable opportunity for the young Indian team to face formidable opponents from Asia. Prior to the event, India engaged in a four-match series against Australia, concluding with a morale-boosting victory, to fine-tune their strategies.
India, placed in Pool A, will face off against Korea, Malaysia, and Singapore in the initial stage. The team’s campaign kicks off against Malaysia on May 30, followed by matches against Korea and Singapore on May 31 and June 2 respectively. The top two teams from each pool will advance to the semifinals on June 5, with the final scheduled for June 6.
Coach Rani emphasized the significance of the tournament in providing exposure to the young athletes and preparing them for high-pressure situations. The team’s focus on fitness, tactical structure, and teamwork aims to instill confidence and a competitive spirit to contend for the championship title.
