Authorities in Jammu district of Jammu and Kashmir have sealed ‘Hotel Gupshup’ in the Nagrota area due to suspected illegal activities. The hotel, situated in a residential zone, was reportedly facilitating accommodations for young couples, causing disturbances to locals and raising concerns about public morality.
Following public resentment and potential threats to peace, a joint team of police and civil administration officials took action. During an inspection, two young couples were found staying at the hotel, leading to their detention for questioning. To curb unlawful activities and maintain public order, the Executive Magistrate ordered the hotel’s closure.
Additionally, the owner, manager, and detained individuals faced preventive action under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The restaurant owner, who also operates a newspaper from the same premises, has been summoned for interrogation. Local residents praised the authorities for addressing long-standing concerns about illicit activities disguised under the restaurant’s operations.
Officials highlighted the police’s role in preventing anti-social behaviors and maintaining public order and social responsibility. They emphasized the police’s crucial response during emergencies to protect civilians and their property.
