Kolkata Police and Static Surveillance Team seized a significant amount of unaccounted cash in a naka checking operation before the West Bengal Assembly elections. The cash amounting to Rs 37,97,000 was found in a vehicle at Plywood More on NSC Bose Road in Tollygunge Assembly constituency. One individual, Ashutosh Agarwal (36), was detained for questioning as he could not explain the source or purpose of the money.
Police suspect the cash might have been intended for illegal transportation and potentially used for election-related activities. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact destination and purpose of the seized money. The seized cash has been handed over to the Income Tax Department following legal procedures.
The owner of the money will be required to provide valid documentation to claim the cash; otherwise, it will be deposited with the government. In preparation for the elections, the Election Commission and West Bengal Police have established naka checking points to prevent the use of unaccounted cash for electoral purposes.
