In an effort to enhance transparency and efficiency in LPG distribution, the Delhi government, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, has prohibited the direct sale of cylinders from godowns. Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have strictly warned distributors against such sales, emphasizing their illegality and the imposition of severe consequences. To improve consumer access, the government has expanded the availability of 5-kg LPG cylinders throughout the city, allowing easy purchase from gas agencies with just a valid ID and no address verification required.
The initiative includes the establishment of 11 dedicated help desks at select HPCL outlets to assist migrant workers in accessing information about nearby LPG distributors. Chief Minister Gupta emphasized the close monitoring of supply to ensure compliance with regulations and prevent disruptions. Residents are advised against visiting gas agencies or storage points, with all booked cylinders being promptly delivered to homes within the specified timeframe.
Data as of April 4 revealed 114,679 LPG bookings in Delhi, with OMCs delivering 131,335 cylinders, surpassing the booking numbers. This surplus delivery indicates the efficient clearing of pending demand, with the average delivery time for domestic LPG cylinders currently standing at 4.24 days. The government has also activated a dedicated control room helpline (011-23379836 / 8383824659) to combat illegal activities like hoarding and black marketing.
To maintain stability and control in LPG supply, Delhi Police conducted raids at 17 locations, and the Food and Supplies Department officials inspected 76 gas agencies and storage sites. Chief Minister Gupta reassured residents of the city’s stable LPG supply and urged them to remain calm, avoid misinformation, and cooperate with the administration to ensure the smooth functioning of the delivery system.
