The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has voiced worries about the rising confrontation in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and the casualties among protesters and law enforcement personnel. HRCP is calling for an immediate de-escalation of tensions and emphasizing the need for pursuing demands for constitutional change through peaceful and democratic means rather than violence. Reports have indicated numerous fatalities and injuries in clashes between demonstrators and security forces, following the proscription of a protest group by Pakistani authorities in the region.
The situation in PoK has drawn international attention, with the Chairman of Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz (JSMM), Shafi Burfat, urging India and the global community to intervene against what he describes as the brutality and persecution faced by the people in PoK, Sindh, and other areas under the control of the Pakistan military. Burfat condemned the actions of the Pakistani military and intelligence agencies, accusing them of committing human rights violations and state-sponsored brutality against civilians in PoK. He called on various nations and international bodies to take immediate notice of these alleged atrocities and to support the oppressed nations in their struggle for freedom.
Burfat further criticized the Pakistani military establishment for what he termed as repression and bloodshed against civilians in PoK, urging India and other democratic governments worldwide to intervene and protect these oppressed populations. He accused Pakistan of maintaining control over various ethnic groups through authoritarianism, coercion, and the manipulation of religion for political purposes.
