Humayun Kabir, the suspended Trinamool Congress legislator from Bharatpur Assembly Constituency in Murshidabad district of West Bengal, has revealed the formation of his new political party, named the Janata Unnayan Party. Kabir explained that the choice of the party’s name was carefully considered to resonate with the people of West Bengal, emphasizing a focus on mass development. Notably, Kabir has had affiliations with the Congress, Trinamool Congress, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the past. He was elected as a Congress legislator in the 2011 West Bengal Assembly elections before switching to the Trinamool Congress and later joining the BJP for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Subsequently, he rejoined the Trinamool Congress and was elected from Bharatpur in the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections. Recently suspended from the Trinamool Congress, Kabir unveiled his party and announced candidates for various constituencies in the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections. He expressed openness to forming alliances with anti-Trinamool Congress and anti-BJP forces, emphasizing a goal of fostering minority unity. Kabir also disclosed that the party’s preferred logo is a “table,” with “twin rose” as a secondary option, and the party flag will feature yellow, green, and white colors.
