Hyderabad Disaster Management and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) has safeguarded public assets valued at more than Rs 1.10 lakh crore in under two years. With strong community backing and proactive measures, HYDRAA aims to reach the Rs 2 lakh crore protection mark in the coming year. The agency recently announced the successful reclamation and preservation of lakes, parks, government lands, and other essential resources from encroachment threats.
HYDRAA expressed gratitude towards responsible citizens, media groups, government bodies, and all stakeholders dedicated to upholding public resources. It emphasized the importance of reclaiming, protecting, and restoring these vital assets for future generations. By securing Hyderabad’s lakes, water bodies, parks, and government lands, HYDRAA envisions a sustainable and resilient legacy for the city.
Amid ongoing discussions about HYDRAA, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s recent comments sparked controversy. He mentioned drawing inspiration from Adolf Hitler to establish HYDRAA, citing the dictator’s favored term. Established in 2024 by the state’s Congress government, HYDRAA has reclaimed over 2,000 acres of government land by clearing encroachments on various sites, including open lands and parks.
Despite its achievements, HYDRAA has faced criticism from opposition parties for its demolition activities, particularly targeting residences of low-income individuals. BRS president and former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao vowed to abolish HYDRAA if his party regains power. The agency, led by IPS officer A.V. Ranganath, remains focused on its mission to protect public assets and manage disasters effectively.
