Hyderabad police apprehended the driver of an ATM cash van and his two sons for stealing Rs 17 lakh from the cash replenishment vehicle a couple of days ago. Chirra Srinivas, who absconded with the money near an SBI ATM in the Edi Bazar area on June 23, was captured along with his sons, Chirra Anish and Chirra Jaswanth, who are employed as delivery personnel for Swiggy.
The Commissioner’s Task Force, Charminar Zone Team, and IS Sadan Police successfully arrested the culprits on Thursday and recovered a total of Rs 14.55 lakh in cash, a motorcycle used in the crime, and four mobile phones. Khare Kiran Prabhakar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Charminar Zone, disclosed this breakthrough during a press conference on the same day.
Following a complaint lodged on June 23 by Bantupalli Suresh, Cash Custodian at Cleared Security Services Pvt Ltd, reporting the escape of his driver, Chirra Srinivas, with Rs 17 lakh in cash intended for loading into the SBI ATM at Edi Bazar, a case was registered under section 303(3) of the BNS at the IS Sadan police station.
Upon scrutinizing the CCTV footage, authorities identified that the driver, Srinivas, seized the cash bag and fled on a motorcycle with another individual, later identified as his son, Anish. Allegedly facing financial hardships, Srinivas devised a plan to steal cash from his workplace and involved his sons in the scheme.
On the fateful day, Srinivas went to work on the cash-filling vehicle, directing Anish to meet him at the SBI ATM at Edi Bazar. Exploiting the distraction caused by other employees filling the ATM, Srinivas seized the cash bag from the vehicle and rendezvoused with Anish in a nearby lane, where they made their escape.
Subsequently, they rendezvoused with Jaswanth in Peerzadiguda, where Srinivas handed him Rs 10 lakh from the stolen cash. Srinivas and Anish retained the remaining cash, using some of it as they moved around. Acting on a tip-off, the police apprehended Srinivas and Anish at Bownepally, leading to the arrest of the third accused, Jaswanth, in Peerzadiguda.
