Hyderabad Police Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar cautioned ‘Gau Rakshak’ groups on Sunday against taking the law into their own hands. He stressed the importance of respecting the law and advised them to report any illegal cattle transportation to the police instead of resorting to direct attacks. Strict actions will be taken against those who violate these guidelines, as per a statement from the Commissioner’s office.
In preparation for the upcoming Bakrid festival, the Police Commissioner conducted a special meeting with ‘Gau Rakshak’ representatives to discuss maintaining law and order. Measures such as setting up checkpoints along the borders have been put in place to prevent any untoward incidents during the festive period.
The Commissioner also issued orders to register criminal cases against individuals sharing social media content related to cattle slaughter that could provoke public sentiments. Volunteers were advised not to accompany police at checkpoints or engage in activities like taking photos of cattle. Each organization was instructed to designate a representative for coordination with the police and ensure all volunteers wear identity cards.
Stringent regulations were laid out, prohibiting cow vigilantes from carrying weapons during inspections or obstructing roads. Surveillance against illegal cattle transportation without proper certification will be ongoing, not just during festivals but throughout the year. Citizens were urged to cooperate with the police and report any relevant information to the control room number provided.
Representatives from various zones, including Additional Commissioners and DCPs, participated in the meeting to address concerns raised by cow vigilante associations.
