Hyderabad police have taken legal action following incidents of vandalism at Puranpaul temple and an ensuing mob attack on a religious structure and the police. The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Rajendra Nagar, reported that an individual damaged a banner and idol at Puranapool Darwaza Mysamma Temple, leading to a case being filed by Kamatipura Police. Evidence, including CCTV footage, has been gathered, and the suspect is expected to be apprehended soon.
A group of around 300 people then gathered and vandalized a nearby structure, also assaulting police officers attempting to restore order. Four officers sustained injuries, and a separate case has been filed for these attacks. The culprits have been identified through video evidence, and strict legal measures will be taken against them, as confirmed by the police.
The DCP clarified that only the veranda’s flexi banner and idol were damaged, ensuring that the main idols in the temple remain unharmed. Rumors of the main idol being destroyed are false, as the perpetrator did not enter the main temple. Authorities urged the public not to fall for misinformation and assured that the situation is now under control. Citizens were warned against spreading fake news on social media and taking the law into their own hands.
